The Illinois State Treasurer is asking Illinois residents for assistance in Operation Purple Heart.
Operation Purple Heart is trying to return eleven Purple Heart medals that had been submitted to the Treasurer's Office as part of the Unclaimed Property program.
The program, also known as Missing Money or I-Cash, holds lost funds to be claimed by the original owner or an heir.
The Purple Heart is awarded to those who are killed or wounded in service of the U.S Military.
The Treasurer's Office is releasing new information, hoping that with Veteran's Day celebrations, relatives may remember details that can lead to the medals finding their rightful home once again.
