A Stewardson man has been convicted of firing a gun at another man during a chase through rural Shelby County earlier this year.
On Monday, a judge found Chance Evans, 23, guilty of Attempted Murder with a Firearm, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, according to State’s Attorney Nichole Kroncke.
On April 12, Evans encountered a man with whom he had had a longtime dispute at a Stewardson gas station, and the two exchanged hostile words in the parking lot, authorities said. When the other man left in his car with his girlfriend and two children, Evans told his girlfriend to follow them in her SUV, they said.
Eventually, Evans’ girlfriend pulled alongside the other man’s car and the men began arguing through opened windows as they drove, witnesses said. At one point, the other man threw a drink at Evans’ vehicle and Evans pulled a revolver from the console and fired a shot toward the other man, they said. The bullet lodged in t he frame of the car, authorities said.
Evans is scheduled for sentencing in the case January 5.
