An Altamont man is headed to prison for leading police on a destructive chase through Effingham, court records show.

In January, Randal Dye tried to hit a Cumberland County Deputy with his vehicle, then fled to Effingham where he drove through Bliss Park, hitting several fixtures, and through fences and a playground at Southside Elementary, police said. Officers arrested Dye after he crashed into a fuel pump at a Casey’s General Store, they said.

On Monday, Dye pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal damage to property, according to online court records. Dye was sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to pay restitution, records show.
