Scott's Law Enforcement Increase Planned

Illinois State Troopers will be increasing trafic enforcment October 15.

The enforcement is for Slow Down, Move Over Day; which is meant to promote safe driving by reminding drivers to switch lanes when vehicles are stopped on the side of the road.

Govener JB Pritzker declared this day in 2017 when Illinois officials Updated Scott's Law, that requires drivers to slow down and move over for any stopped vehicels.

The Law was originaly passed in 2000 after firefighter Lieutenant Scott Gillen was struck and killed by an intoxicated driver while pulled over.

Since 2019, Illinois State Police have reported 82 squad cars struck, two Trooper deaths, and 49 Troopers Injured because of violations of Scott's Law.
