A local university has earned an award, noting the school's appreciation of its natural environment.
Eastern Illinois University officials said the university has once again earned recognition as a Tree Campus USA by the Arbor Day foundation for its sustained commitment to, and maintenance of, its campus trees.
The Arbor Day Foundation said trees offer protection from the sun and wind, while filtering breathable air, saying Tree Campus USA designations benefit from reduced energy use and limiting the amount of carbon dioxide in the air.
