Officers on the Yingying Zhang Case Honored

Friday, 14 February 2020

University of Illinois police officers are being honored for their work on the case of missing scholar Yingying Zhang.

U of I Chancellor Robert Jones says Sergeant James Carter, telecommunicator Kenny Costa and Detective Eric Stiverson will be given the Chancellor's medallion for their work on the Zhang case.

Jones said each were instrumental in leading to the eventual conviction of Zhang's murderer Brendt Christensen, who they say lured Zhang to his car before torturing and killing her.

The event takes place February 24th from 3:30 to 5 in the Illinois Ballroom of the I Hotel and Conference Center at 1900 South Fire Street.

On Eastern Illinois University's campus, EIU instructor Joe Astrouski and the Champaign News Gazette's Ben Zigterman will discuss the case on February 19th, in the Doudna Fine Arts Center starting at seven.
