Mattoon Domestic Abuse Arrests

Multiple arrests have led to domestic abuse charges in Mattoon.

Mattoon Police said 29-year-old Colton Pettyjohn of Mattoon was arrested Friday night in the 3500 block of Marion Avenue.

Police said during a domestic dispute, Pettyjohn shoved a female to the floor multiple times, then broke her cellphone to prevent her from calling the police.

Pettyjohn is charged with domestic battery and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence.

Also Friday, Mattoon Police said 39-year-old Christopher Peoples, also of Mattoon, was arrested in the 2200 Block of Charleston Avenue.

Police said Peoples kicked a female, then got on top of her and began choking her.

Peoples faces a charge of domestic battery, with the Illinois Department of Corrections issuing a parole warrant in the case as well.

Peoples remains in the Coles County Jail, while Pettyjohn was released after posting his bond.
