Potential Bill Banning Live Animals as Carnival Rewards

Monday, 3 February 2020

A new bill is going through the Illinois General Assembly that would ban using live animals as prize rewards.

State records show if the proposed bill, co-sponsored by state senators Suzy Hilton and Celina Villanueva, comes to pass, carnivals would not be allowed to use animals such as fish, reptiles, and hermit crabs, as prizes.

The bill would allow carnivals to offer a coupon, certificate or voucher to obtain a live animal from a licensed pet store as a prize.
