U of I Admissions Policy

Monday, 9 December 2019

The University of Illinois is no longer wanting to know about your criminal background, at least not when you initially apply to the school.

University officials say they're adopting a new box blind policy, where they will no longer require potential students to disclose their criminal background during the initial application process.

Officials say the question often discouraged students from applying.

The university can still ask about any criminal history for safety concerns, after an admissions decision is made.
