Bill to Cap Insulin Prices Passes General Assembly

Thursday, 14 November 2019

A bill that would cap the cost of insulin is making progress as it moves through the state capitol.

On Wednesday, the Illinois House voted to cap the amount diabetes patients have to pay for insulin, and on Thursday, the Senate did the same.

The cap would limit the cost to 100 dollars a month, but would only apply to state-regulated commercial insurance companies.

The legislation now heads to Governor J.B. Pritzker who supports the measure.

Health officials say about 1.3 million Illinois residents have diabetes, although not all rely on insulin.
