Casey to Hold Public Hearing on Cannabis Sales

Thursday, 14 November 2019

Casey city leaders announce a public hearing regarding cannabis sales.

The hearing is set for Monday at 5 p.m. in the City Council Room located in the new City Hall building on Alabama Avenue.

Officials are seeking residents' opinions on whether or not cannabis sales should be allowed within Casey, but no action will be taken at the meeting.

Illinois' new recreational marijuana law takes effect January 1st and will allow Illinois residents to have up to 30 grams of cannabis flower and up to five grams of cannabis concentrate.

However, the law gives local governments the authority to ban cannabis sales within their jurisdictions.

Many towns across central Illinois are still debating the issue.

Effingham, Taylorville, and Marshall have yet to take a vote on allowing cannabis sales.
