A Savoy man will spend six months in jail for torturing his girlfriend's cat, which later died.
In court Wednesday Nathan Sitter said he's ashamed of his actions and is "very remorseful."
Prosecutors asked for a four-year prison term but Sitter's public defender argued he's been in counseling for depression.
Sitter pleaded guilty in March to one count of animal torture.
He admitted in December he repeatedly dunked the cat under cold water and hit it with a closed fist.
