New Illinois legislation is being considered that could ban colleges from asking prospective students if they've been convicted of crimes.
Officials say the bill, sponsored by representative Barbara Wheeler, would allow someone who's committed a crime to get into college easier and turn their life around.
Northern Illinois University Lobbyist Don Sevener says the school opposes this bill because it would prevent schools from taking steps to protect their students.
This bill was approved by the House Higher Education Committee on Tuesday, and now moves to the full House.
