A truck carrying anhydrous ammonia malfunctioned Tuesday morning, causing the release of almost 20 tons of anhydrous ammonia. 200 residents had to evacuate their homes because of a large vapor cloud. Police say the incident appears to be purely accidental, but many residents were still scared. Resident Tina Vonderheide is also an E-M-T and Firefighter for the town and knew exactly what to do to protect her family. Once again ... officials believe the incident was purely accidental and no foul play is suspected. Stewardson mayor Paul Antrim says weather may have helped contain the situation, because it was so cold, many people had their homes closed up.
