University of Illinois Security Cameras

Wednesday, 30 March 2016

Extra security measures are working at the University of Illinois.

The university police department says since they've installed more than a thousand security cameras around campus in 2007 they've seen a reduction in crimes.

U of I police Lieutenant Tom Geis says last year the camera system helped them get evidence in 55 cases.

Officials say the video recordings are used for investigative purposes only and the cameras only provide viual data, not audio recordings.

They also say recordings are stored up to 30 days, but can be extended up to 120 days if requested for an active investigation.
