Tuesday, 11 August 2015

The bomb squad from the University of Illinois removes a World War II-era ordnance from a Mattoon house.

Relatives cleaning an elderly resident's home found the ordnance.

Police were sent to the house Monday afternoon.

Mattoon police lieutenant Gary Kepley says authorities found the ordnance and called the bomb squad.

The bomb technicians removed the ordnance and took it to their facility for disposal.

Mattoon firefighters were called to be on standby as a precaution.

Kepley says no criminal activity was involved and no homes were evacuated.
