University of Illinois officials say a policy requiring background checks for all new employees is expected to start October 5th.
The proposal will be presented to the full Board of Trustees for its approval in September.
The school already requires background checks for employees with positions considered "security-sensitive," and those who work with money, children or in a hospital.
Last year, the school announced plans to expand background checks to all employees.
The checks will be conducted after a job offer has been made and accepted by the employee, and before the appointment heads to the Board of Trustees for approval.
Vice president of human resources Maureen Parks says the procedures are still being finalized.
