Teutopolis Head Basketball Coach Fired

Tuesday, 14 April 2015

"I want to wish Fehrenbacher and his family the best." Teutopolis Superintendent Bill Fritcher says Andrew Fehrenbacher was valued coach and teacher for the school district. But that didn't stop the school board from terminating his position as varsity boy's basketball coach. "I think with any coaching situation you're going to have people who support you and who you are going to have people who don't. That's the nature of coaching unfortunately." According to the Illinois Open Meetings Act the dismissal of staff is discussed in closed session which isn't open to the public. While a reason for the firing isn't being released Fritcher says the board decided it was time for a change. "Appreciate everything he's done for the school district the last 17 years. The school district just wanted to go a different way. And we are going to move forward from here." Fritcher says the decision had nothing to do with Fehrenbacher's record. In fact his 200 and 44 record is the best among all seven coaches listed on Illinois High School Association's website for Teutopolis. "He certainly understands the game ... and I think people who watched his games know that." Fritcher says the search for a new varsity coach will start soon. "We want a teacher ... someone who will teach the game."
