Tuesday's general election means an unclear future for schools in Neoga. The Neoga school district has been in financial trouble for years, recently cutting more than 30 employees. A referendum was on the ballot yesterday to increase property taxes to benefit the schools, but it failed. News Watch spoke with many in the community both voting for and against the referendum. The outcome is a community torn on the topic, and many are just ready for things to get back to normal. Officials estimated the tax would generate about $800,000 a year. Interim Superintendent Beth Pressler echoed that point of view. She says there's been great overspending by the district, and she's ready to resolve the problem, but at this point she's not sure where the additional money will come from. Pressler will meet with the school board next week.
