Officials say Mattoon Police K-9 Brix was awarded a ballistic vest thanks to a non-profit organization Vested Interest In K9s.
Each vest costs 950 dollars and Meredosia, Illinois resident Allison Burrus donated the money for Brix's vest.
Brix arrived at the Mattoon Police Department in 2013 and is partnered with officer Ryan Koop.
Police say Officer Koop and Brix have been an outstanding team working in narcotics detection and fugitive apprehension.
