One week from today travelers will be detoured on a portion of Illinois Route 133. Recently the Illinois Department of Transportation announced plans to close the highway while a bridge over the Embarrass River is replaced. I-DOT hired A.J. Walker Construction in Mattoon to handle the project. Company manager Geoff Boyd says the project will cost just over three million dollars but it's needed. The new bridge should be open by late November, unless spring flooding delays their progress. During this time all vehicles except local traffic should use U.S. 36 via highway 130 and state road 49. But be prepared, the marked detour will take almost three times the normal driving time.
