Last night, Mattoon city council members voted four to nothing to approve a permit for a new cannabis dispensary in the former National Bank building on Lake Land Boulevard.
One board member, David Phipps, abstained from voting.
The National Bank building already meets current city requirements for its distance away from schools, said TC AppliCo LLC.
The new location will be called "BLOC Dispensary", TC Applico said.
Community development and planning director Alexander Benishek said he hops the dispensary will generate more revenue for non-profits and create more jobs for residents.
