U of I Chancellor to Become 164th President at University of Washington

The University of Illinois' chancellor has announced his departure from the Urbana-Champaign campus.

Chancellor Robert Jones will complete the academic year with U of I and then assume his new role as the 34th president at the University of Washington starting August 1st.

During his time at Illinois Jones helped enrollment grow and assisted in the opening of the Carle Illinois College of Medicine.

Jones will be the first African American president in the University of Washington's 164-year history.

Prior to Illinois Jones served as the president for the University of Albany from 2013-2016 where he initiated Albany's largest academic expansion in half a century.
