A former middle school teacher was sentenced to prison time Thursday after pleading guilty in October to charges of grooming and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Jason Engler, 45, had taught in the Okaw Valley School District and was accused of having inappropriate communications with a high school student.
During Thursday's hearing, a Moultrie County judge sentenced Engler to five years in prison on the charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor along with a concurrent sentence of three years in prison on the grooming charge, according to court records. Engler will also receive credit for 111 days already served in jail.
Engler has also pleaded guilty to a charge of grooming in Shelby County and is scheduled for a hearing there on December 18.
