The Village Square Mall in Effingham was sold for $1.275 million.
The property was auctioned off Monday morning to Square Southtown LLC as part of a "Sheriff's Sale", according to the Effingham County Sheriff's Department.
The city and the mall's previous owners have been involved in a legal dispute, according to court documents.
That dispute centers around the mall owners failing to fix more than a million dollars worth of repairs, court records show.
Those records indicate the city paid for that work, but never recouped the money, so the building went up for auction.
The previous owners tried to appeal the sale on Friday, but the courts ruled the auction could take place, according to legal documents.
The sheriff's office didn't have information on what the new owners plan to do with the space.
