The University of Illinois Announces a Tuition Increase

Friday, 27 January 2023

On Thursday, the University of Illinois Board of Trustees announced what they call a modest tuition increase for some for in-state freshmen starting in the fall of 2023.

Tuition will increase by nearly 2% for incoming in-state freshmen at the Urbana-Champaign and Chicago campuses, said university officials.

According to the board, tuition will increase by $238 to $12,712.

"These modest increases will allow our universies to maintain the excellence that students and families expect and manage inflationary pressures that are driving up our expenses ... This
decision by trustees, alongside our commitment to providing financial aid that makes a real difference in students' lives, aligns with our promise to maintain access and affordability at our universities."
said U of I System President Kim Allen on Thursday.

The University of Illinois Board of Trustees said out-of-state and international students can also expect an increase in tuition by almost 2.5%

Board members also approved small increases in fees and housing rates.

Tuition costs at University of Illinois Springfield campus will not change, said board officials.

Currently enrolled undergraduates will not see an increase in prices, said officials.

Student enrollment between the three universities reached 94,861 students, a record high for the 10th consecutive year, said board officials.
