University of Illinois removes COVID-19 vaccine and test requirements

Monday, 9 January 2023

On Friday, the University of Illinois announced they're removing COVID-19 vaccination and testing requirements for students and employees.

The university still recommends staying up-to-date with available vaccines and booster shots.

In fall of 2021, they started requiring staff and students to be vaccinated and boosted, garnering them a 95% vaccination rate.

They required those who were unvaccinated to undergo regular testing.

This change comes as the Illinois Department of Public Health says that 73 counties are at an elevated risk for the virus.
