Change is Coming to Parks in Downtown Decatur

Change is coming to parks in downtown Decatur.

City officials announced that Central Park and Preston Jackson Park will be closed from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. to help keep the parks in good condition.

The new hours are due to vandalism, defacement, and littering at night, said city officials.

Anyone caught violating the new hours will be given a warning and asked to leave or given a $25 fine, said city officials.

According to officials the homeless who are there at night will be encouraged to go to a shelter.

City Officials have also said the city council will review the hour change after a year to see if the changes have made a difference on the parks and the public.
