Indiana Student Hit By Officer's Gunshot

A Vermillion County, Indiana Sheriff's Deputy is on administrative leave after his service gun discharged, grazing a student during a law enforcement vocational class Thursday.

The incident happened around 9:30 a.m. at South Vermillion High School in Clinton.

Deputy Tim DisPennett, a 19-year veteran of the sheriff's department, had been conducting drills during the class when the gun discharged, school officials said.

The student who was grazed described his level of pain as a "sting".
