IL Sailor Killed at Pearl Harbor Returns Home

An Illinois soldier killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor has been laid to rest in Effingham County.

Machinist's Mate 1st Class Keith Tipsword was 27 years old when he was killed while aboard the USS West Virginia on December 7, 1941. His remains were buried as unidentified in Hawaii before they were identified this year by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency.

Keith Tipsword was buried Tuesday at Moccasin Cemetery near Beecher City near his family.
