Attorney General Kwame Raoul is warning of potential scams on Veterans’ Day because of the recent passing of the PACT Act.
The PACT Act (Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics) expands the benefits and health care for the veterans exposed to toxins.
“I encourage veterans and military families to visit my office’s website or check our free Benefits for Illinois Veterans Guide for more information about how to access the services they deserve and to protect themselves and their families from scammers,” Raoul said.
The Federal Trade Commission says in 2021, 162,000 veterans filed reports of fraud with $177 million in total loss.
The Attorney General said that most government agencies will contact you by official letters and not by email or texts.
Raoul said veterans who have been a victim or target by a suspected scam to contact the Veterans Rights Helpline at (800) 382-3000.
