Gov. Pritzker Orders Bars, Restaurants to Close By End of Day Monday

Sunday, 15 March 2020

Closing restaurants and bars to dine-in customers is Governor Pritzker's latest step in combating COVID-19.

The closure will begin at the end of business Monday, March 16th and continue through March 30th.

Restaurants and bars will be allowed to hold drive-thru and curbside pickups.

Pritzker made the announcement during a press conference Sunday where the Illinois Department of Public Health announced the state now has 93 cases of coronavirus.

One of those cases is a Champaign County resident, the county's first case.

The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District says the resident is a female in her 50s, and she is in home isolation and recovering.

IDPH says cases have occurred in all age ranges, and the number of cases that do not have a clear connection to travel or a known COVID-19 case is increasing.

Health officials advise implementing social distancing measures, such as working from home when possible, limiting the amount of time spent in the community, and trying to avoid public transportation as much as possible, to reduce the number of people who become sick at any given time and the possibility of exhausting our health care resources.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources announced Sunday they are closing all IDNR-owned properties, effective immediately.

The IDNR says all events scheduled on state property are canceled.
