Coles County is getting a boost to support public housing.
Illinois Senators Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin announced more than $21-million will be distributed in central Illinois to help with development, financing, and modernization of public housing properties.
They said Housing Authorities receiving grants include Coles, Edgar, Effingham, Shelby, and Cumberland Counties.
Officials said Coles and Edgar Counties will receive more than $400,000 each.
Senator Durbin said this funding gives local agencies the ability to offer safe and affordable housing to those who need it.
The amount distributed to each county is listed below:
Coles County: $408,246
Edgar County: $409,602
Effingham County: $214,995
Shelby County: $211,929
Cumberland County: $183,074
