Friday, 13 December 2019

A Missouri man is now in custody on burglary charges out of Effingham County.

David Carter, 55, of Hannibal faces nine counts of burglary, which are Class 2 felonies.

Police say the arrest stems from vehicle burglaries that occured November 30th at St. Anthony High School.

Carter is currently being held in Hannibal and is expected to be extradited to Effingham County next week where he will be incarcerated and face his inital hearing.

Carter's bail has been set at $75,000.

If convicted, Carter could up to seven years in state prison and $25,000 in fines for each count.

Effingham Police Chief Jason McFarland applauded the hard work and collaboration in the case, saying perpetrators of vehicle burglaries are often not apprehended.
