Champaign Charity Faces Deficit as Holidays Approach

Monday, 2 December 2019

A Champaign charity that aids the hungry and homeless is more than $270,000 in the hole as it enters the holiday season.

Executive Director of Restoration Urban Ministries Ervin Williams says the facility budgets $650,000 for housing, food, and clothing, but funding has not kept up with demand.

Due to the deficit, staff has been cut and the amount of food purchased monthly has been reduced.

Williams says donations remain at the same level as in the past, but there are more charities vying for funds.
