Effingham county EMA officials are taking steps to better prepare for severe weather, and you can do the same! The organization recently purchased a special storm shelter. Officials say the structure is built to withstand an EF-5 tornado. Jacobs says the idea started from a conversation between her and a National Weather Service meteorologist, who told her details about such structures. The shelter at the EMA facility has been installed for about three weeks, and can hold about 15 people. The county paid around $3,000 for the shed.
