Charleston Stop Sign

Friday, 4 March 2016

A stop sign was installed in December after multiple pedestrians complained about almost getting hit on the intersection of 5th and Van Buren Streets. The intersection was a safety hazard because of the slope and sharp turn those walking and riding their bikes had to take on their way to the library. Without the stop sign CTF workers were afraid their clients in wheelchairs could get hit while on their way to the library. Library Director Jeanne Hamilton says she hasn't seen much of an improvement yet. Drivers are having a hard time remembering that the stop sign is there. Drivers who run a stop sign can face a minimum fine of $100.
