Oakland Illinois School District Enrichment-Tutorial Program

Friday, 5 February 2016

A local school district is making 20 minutes of their day really count! Principal of the Oakland School District, Adam Clapp, says they adopted the Enrichment -Tutorial program four years ago. He says the program allows the 6th-12th grade students to spend 20 minutes a day doing activities such as dance, computer coding, tutoring and more. However, if students are having trouble with their grades, Clapp says it's also a chance for students to get individual help from teachers. Resource Teacher for the Oakland School District, Beth McMahon, says the positive incentive is working well. Clapp says that because of the program, this last Fall, all 72 of their high school students passed all of their classes, a feat the district hasn't seen in at least seven years. He says he's expecting even greater results as the program continues.
