Charleston citizens may have an easier time crossing a street near the library.
The city council approved a new ordinance that added two new stop signs at the intersection of 5th Street and Van Buren Avenue.
City clerk Deborah Muller says cars traveling both directions of 5th Street must now stop.
Muller says children typically cross the intersection since it's in front of the public library.
She says the change is a safety procaution because the area is an accident waiting to happen.
