Casey Safe Haven Program

Tuesday, 19 January 2016

A Clark County police station has put up a sign, to welcome all infants that don't have a home.

The Casey Police Department is pairing up with the Safe Haven Program so any mother's can drop off their infants if they can't give them proper care.

Chief Mark Jenkins says the program is designed to help keep newborns safe.

Jenkins says that, "They're wanting to eliminate the dumping of infants of course in trash dumpsters and things like that."

They can bring their infant to a police or fire depart or a hospital as long as it is staffed with no questions asked.

When a child is dropped off it will be put in the care of the Department of Children and Family Services.

No cases have happened in Casey, but officials say statewide around 100 babies have been dropped off since 2001.
