PET Volunteers

Volunteers at a local organization are helping some special kids saddle up as part of physical therapy. The group is thinking outside the box, using four-legged friends to assist those with disabilities; but, they need more help! The program is part of the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International, an organization that has nearly 700 certified centers across the country. The volunteers say this concept isn't new, they say it originated in Europe in the 1,800. Locally, the program started in Mattoon, many years ago; but, has since moved to a barn southeast of Charleston, even attracting riders from out of state! For more information, or if you'd like to become involved, you can find Paradise Equestrain Therapy online at: pethorse.org
