U of I Med School Name

The University of Illinois is now asking faculty leaders to weigh in on the name of a planned new medical school.

University rules require the faculty senate weigh in on any new college within the university.

The new medical school on the Urbana-Champaign was named Carle Illinois College of Medicine after the plan to create it was approved in March.

Carle is a local hospital that is a partner in the new school and is contributing $100 million.

Campus spokeswoman Robin Kaler says administrators noticed they hadn't followed university rules only after the planned new school was named.

Professor Roy Campbell chairs the Senate Executive Committee.

He suspects the name will not change.
