Oakland Lifts Liquor Ban

Wednesday, 8 April 2015

Residents of Oakland had a little more luck at the polls Tuesday night.

The sale of packaged liquor is now legal for the first time in 80 years.

Officials say 157 residents voted to end the ban, while 130 voted to keep it.

This isn't the first time lifting of the ban appeared on the ballot... a referendum to end it was voted down in the 80s.

Officials say Oakland became a dry town in 1935, two years after the government repealed prohibition.
