FEMA Denies Assistance

Money needed by flood victims won't be given out by the federal government.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, has denied Illinois' request for federal assistance to help about two dozen counties including Douglas, Christian, Cumberland and Moultrie.

FEMA Administrator W. Craig Fugate notified the state in a letter saying the damage from floods and severe storms isn't beyond the capabilities of the state.

Illinois Emergency Management Agency Director James Joseph says he's looking into possibly appealing the denial.
