The Illinois Senate votes to override governor Bruce Rauner's veto of funding hundreds of millions of dollars for higher education.
The move would authorize spending $397 million for the income-based Monetary Award Program.
The bill would also give $324 million to help finance community colleges.
Rauner previously vetoed the bill, saying there isn't enough money to cover the funding since the state budget stalemate has been in place for eight months.
The measure now heads to the House.
