From the Charleston Police Department:

Powerball Scam:
Lottery scams are not new, but a recent Powerball scam has surfaced through facebook where the unknown scammer friends a person on facebook or allow you to friend them. The scammer is using the facebook name "Powerball".

Recently, a local resident "friended" what she believed to be the legitimate Powerball facebook page. Once done, the scammer messaged the resident and tried to trick them into sending a $300 money order in order to receive $7,000. They called seeking name, address, and phone number and contacted the resident in an attempt to get money from them.

DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM!

If you are being asked for money after you allegedly won money then it is a scam. Hang up, unfriend, and ignore them.
