Parents that don't send their kids to school, may be send themselves to jail.
Effingham County officials say they haven't been cutting parents slack when it comes truancy.
Officials say if a child misses more than nine days of school without a valid reason parents of that child could be charged with a Class C Misdemeanor which is punishable up to thirty days in jail.
Truancy officer Julie Morell says parents can participate in prevention and intervention services to help get their child back on track.
